The Norwegian Polar Institute (Norsk Polarinstitutt, NPI) is Norway's central institute for research, environmental monitoring and mapping in the polar regions. NPI is a directorate under Norway's Ministry of Environment. The institute is responsible for environmental management and counselling, environmental data collection and dissemination, and topographic and thematic mapping in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. NPI coordinates the national environmental monitoring programme in Svalbard and the Northern Seas. NPI has its head office Tromsø, and operates research stations in Svalbard and Antarctica, and the research vessel R/V Lance.
NPI's role in the project
NPI is one of the sub-contractors of the project. NPI will have the main responsibility for developing and delivering services for glacier products covering the Svalbard region.
