Sea Ice (MET Norway)

Main products produced and provided in CryoClim was aggregated sea-ice concentration products: monthly and yearly products covering the period 1979 to 2017. These were based on global sea-ice concentration data records produced in EUMETSAT OSISAF: OSI-409 and OSI-409-a, as well as OSI-430 – a NRT product that complemented OSI-409 and OSI-409-a. These data records give daily average fractional ice cover as percentage and are based on passive microwave radiometer satellite data. Climate indicators derived from the aggregated sea-ice concentration data were also produced.

Example of a climate indicator derived from sea-ice concentration daily data.

OSI-409, OSI-409-a and OSI-430 has been superseded by OSI-450. Updated datasets for sea-ice concentration are available from http://www.osi-saf.org/?q=content/sea-ice-products, and a wide range of climate indicators derived from sea-ice concentration data can be found at cryo.met.no.
